The Spider and the Fly

“Will you walk into my parlour?” said the Spider to the Fly, 'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.”

“Oh no, no,” said the little Fly, “to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again.”

Divination Techniques

My Philosophy:

Divination is a form of entertainment with the hopes of peering into the future, but more importantly, with the unique ability to quickly engage yourself and others in an intimate dialog.  When consulting oracles it allows us a moment of pause and reflection, and an opportunity for examination of self and of Humanity as a whole.  When reading for others, Fortune Telling gives us the chance to observe lives we shall never lead, and learn from them.  The messages and lessons offered by the random symbols generated can greatly enhance our understanding of ourselves and those that we care about, promote empathy, a sensitivity towards others and the world around us,  as well as satisfy our curiosity regarding what fate might have in store.      ~ Madam Sheol

Madam Sheol's Methodology

Before the advent of the internet, I had to nervously browse the oft maligned "Occult" section of a second hand book store, or write away to an exotic advertisement in the back of a magazine to learn how to read oracles. When that wasn't enough to satisfy my curiousity, I would consult with the old Ladies that practiced behind neon palmistry signs, (they would refer to it as "pester" though) in order to acquire the skill of telling fortunes.

This is how I first began my studies, but now that the information is readily available, it is still my opinion that we should gather knowledge from as many sources as possible. In this way we can discover techniques that most appeal to us and use those as the foundation for devising interpretations and methods suited to our own personal tastes, creativity and experiences.

This said, I still think everyone should be given the chance to acquire knowledge from a personal mentor, and I am always happy to engage in conversations and consult with those that come to me with questions.  It is with this in mind that I provide instructions and offer a beginners guide to my  personal methodology, which is based upon my studies and experiences.  It is also a bit of an homage to all those wonderful people that shared with me their knowledge as well, and to pass it along to those that might find it useful.

Other than "keyword" and brief interpretations, I won't bore you with a glossary of the often convoluted meanings. Nor will I describe the mythology or history behind each method here.

I will be offering that type of information in the Library or Blog sections of the site as the whim strikes me, but until then there are many sources of those available to you via a quick search of the internet.  Instead, the following courses in each topic are written as I teach beginning students, based upon the idea that everyone must find techniques that they are most comfortable with when attempting to engage in conversations with "the Divine".

Please feel free to leave comments, or ask questions, I'd love to hear from you.  More indepth coverage of these topics and others will be provided as interest dictates and time allows.

Success! Message received.

Old wives tales, table rapping, and the supernatural were comon topics and passtimes during the Victorian Era. Below you will find some of the more popular guides to "matters magical and mysterious", compiled from my personal collection of books and pamphlets published between the years 1866 - 1901.
